2025 Career Outcomes Report: MCIT Online Graduates Continue to Lead in Tech and Beyond

The latest Career Outcomes Report for the online Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT Online) program offers a powerful snapshot of where graduates are heading—and how far they’ve already gone.
Surveying 493 graduates from August 2024 through May 2025, the report captures 421 known outcomes, representing an 85% knowledge rate. The results reflect what we see every day across Penn Engineering Online: talented professionals leveraging rigorous computer science training to unlock new opportunities, pivot careers, and accelerate growth.
Here are some of the key highlights.
From Career Pivot to Career Launch
For many MCIT Online students, graduation marks not the continuation of a path, but the beginning of a new one. In this year’s report, 266 graduates secured new full-time employment within six months of completing the program, while another 105 continued in their previous roles—often with expanded responsibilities or increased compensation.
The range of employers illustrates both the program’s rigor and its reach. Graduates accepted positions at companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and NVIDIA. Others joined organizations like Lockheed Martin, PwC, Royal Bank of Canada, Vanguard, and the United Nations.
Yet the story isn’t just about industry-leading employers. It’s about the roles graduates are stepping into:
Software Engineers designing scalable systems, Data Scientists uncovering insight from complexity, Product Managers shaping roadmaps, Machine Learning Engineers building intelligent tools, and senior leaders guiding technical strategy. The diversity of titles reflects the flexibility of the skills and knowledge acquired in the foundation of the MCIT Online degree—an education grounded in core computer science principles that empowers graduates to move confidently across industries.
Technology at the Core, Impact Across Industries
While technology remains the largest employment sector for new graduates, the outcomes data makes clear that technical fluency is now indispensable across domains. Graduates entered financial services firms, healthcare systems, energy companies, research labs, consulting organizations, manufacturing companies, and higher education institutions.
Software engineering roles were the most common, followed closely by positions in data and analytics.
But the broader narrative is one of integration: computer science embedded into finance, healthcare, aerospace, biotechnology, and public service. The MCIT Online degree equips students not simply to “work in tech,” but to bring computational thinking to complex, real-world challenges wherever they arise.
Measurable Growth and Meaningful Returns
The financial outcomes reported this year underscore the tangible impact of the degree. Among U.S.-based graduates who secured new employment, the average salary was $141,696 and the median was $120,000. Graduates entering the technology sector reported an average salary of $164,605.
Software engineers, one of the most common job functions, reported a median salary of $125,000. Data and analytics professionals reported a median of $145,000. Beyond base salary, many graduates received signing bonuses, stock options, relocation packages, and visa sponsorship. Just as telling, more than half of respondents who reported on salary change indicated that their compensation increased after completing the program—with a significant number reporting increases of over 25%.
These numbers represent more than earnings. They reflect expanded opportunity, upward mobility, and the long-term value of technical fluency in today’s economy.
A National and Global Network
The geographic distribution of graduates highlights the program’s expansive footprint. Across the United States, graduates accepted positions in major innovation hubs including New York, California, Washington, Texas, and Pennsylvania. Internationally, alumni reported roles in Canada, China, the United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Denmark, Luxembourg, Mexico, Spain, and beyond.
This global presence reinforces one of MCIT Online’s defining strengths: accessibility without limitation. Students can engage in rigorous Ivy League coursework from anywhere and graduate into opportunities everywhere.
Continuing the Journey
For some graduates, completion of the MCIT Online program marked the beginning of further academic exploration. Several enrolled in advanced programs at the University of Pennsylvania, including the Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence Online, the Master of Science in Engineering in Data Science Online, and even a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science.
This progression reflects the intellectual confidence the program builds. For many, MCIT Online serves not only as a bridge into technology careers, but as a foundation for lifelong engagement with computer science.
