Road Trip: Penn Engineering Online Students Visit Riot Games and Google in Los Angeles
While our online master’s degree programs operate fully online, our Career Services team facilitates Road Trips to bring students and employers together in-person to build community and network. These events give Penn Engineering Online students the opportunity to meet classmates face-to-face, connect with alumni, explore career pathways, and visit leading employers in major tech and innovation hubs.
Most recently, our online graduate students gathered in Los Angeles to go on site to Riot Games in West LA and Google in Playa Vista. They met alumni, current employees, recruiters, and industry professionals working across technology, gaming, software engineering, product, data, and AI.
Riot Games | West Los Angeles
Our students had the opportunity to visit Riot Games for an inside look at one of the world’s leading game developers. Riot Games is best known for creating games like League of Legends, Valorant, Teamfight Tactics, and the animated series Arcane, based on the League of Legends universe. Our students’ visit included a guided tour of the office, followed by an engaging panel and Q&A that offered valuable insight into Riot’s culture, teams, and career pathways. Students also connected directly with Riot employees at various levels and heard firsthand about their experiences in the video game industry.

We were delighted to host a networking social for our Road Trip attendees, where they strengthened their bonds with their current classmates and fellow future alumni. In a more casual setting, students had the chance to continue getting to know one another beyond their virtual courses and learning experiences.
Google | Playa Vista
Students visited Google for a valuable opportunity to connect with current employees and Penn alumni while gaining insight into the employee experience at one of the leading technology companies in the world. The visit began with a panel featuring Googlers across software engineering, product management, and customer engineering, representing areas such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. Panelists shared perspectives on their roles at Google and offered timely advice on navigating applications and interviews in today’s market. Following the panel, students toured the office and experienced the workspace and employee benefits firsthand.
We were overjoyed for our students to connect with a number of alumni who hosted us and helped students better understand the day-to-day of working at a global tech company. We want to extend a special thank you to our Penn Engineering alumni host, JJ Lee, who planned, led, and facilitated this special event and an additional thank you to all of the engaged Google employees who we got to connect with on site.
Across past Road Trips, Penn Engineering Online students have also visited and engaged with employers across technology, gaming, AI, data science, fintech, healthcare technology, travel, e-commerce, and startups. Past employer partners have included Amazon, C3.ai, Cesium, Comcast, Expedia, Formlabs, Google, MathWorks, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Nuro, Perpay, Riot Games, SAP, Stripe, Tesla, Tripadvisor, WillowTree/TELUS Digital, Zocdoc, and others.
