Job Description Summary

Penn Engineering Online seeking a talented individual to join our team as a dynamic and versatile Learning Experience Engineer. In this critical role, you will be responsible for beta testing course content, consulting with the Instructional Design Team, creating and maintaining assessments with autograders, and building custom development solutions. Your expertise and contributions will directly impact the quality and effectiveness of Penn Engineering Online, supporting our mission to deliver exceptional online learning experiences. Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain assessments and associated autograders. Develop comprehensive and accurate assessment materials that align with the learning objectives of the online courses. This includes designing and authoring a variety of assessment formats such as quizzes, exams, and assignments, and ensuring they effectively evaluate the knowledge and skills of the learners. Additionally, you will develop and maintain autograders, implementing automated grading systems that provide timely and consistent feedback to learners, while continuously monitoring and updating these tools to improve their functionality and accuracy.
  • Create, update, and maintain documentation. This includes underlying documentation for autograders and associated course technology. Additionally, you will contribute to the student knowledge base by creating and maintaining informative articles and guides to support student learning.
  • Thoroughly test and evaluate course content during the development process, ensuring its accuracy, functionality, and effectiveness. You will identify any errors, inconsistencies, or bugs in the content and work with the Instructional Design Team for prompt resolution. Additionally, you will provide valuable feedback on the course materials, offering suggestions for improvement and enhancement to ensure an optimal learning experience for students.
  • Create custom solutions that enhance the learning experience and optimize the functionality of educational platforms. This involves designing and implementing custom features, integrations, and enhancements to meet specific instructional needs and improve student engagement.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer and Information Science and a minimum of three years of application development and technology services experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master’s degree in a related field and a background in Computer Science or STEM is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with instructional technology program development and system administration are desired.
  • Ability to write, troubleshoot, and implement code using Python 3, Java 8, C/C++, Javascript, and CSS3.
  • Familiarity with the VSCode and Jupyter notebooks development environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, an appreciation for higher education and the ability to work with a variety of individuals including students, faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of basic Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Science concepts is strongly preferred.
  • Strong collaborator and communicator capable of working closely with colleagues to achieve project objectives in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for learning and remaining on the cutting edge of current thinking in the fields of technology and education

Preferred, but not required

  • Familiarity with a variety of web and interactive technologies and how they support effective learning
  • Basic understanding of front-end design and development (UX principles, HTML, etc.)
  • Knowledge of best practices, processes, and current developments in online education and learning science
  • Experience with UX/learner testing, familiarity with principles and processes of human centered design and universal design, experience using analytics to make data driven learning design decisions

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee operations of three studios: full-scale production, audio-focused, and self-service multimodal, ensuring optimal functionality and resource utilization.
  • Manage and mentor a diverse team of producers, editors, and student workers, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Research, evaluate, and liaise with vendors and contractors, overseeing project management of contracts to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
  • Manage equipment purchasing, maintenance, and inventorying for all studios, ensuring proper functioning and availability of necessary tools and resources.
  • Collaborate and manage projects for a diverse group of stakeholders, including faculty, staff from across the University, marketing professionals, industry leaders, and others, with a primary focus on creating content for online courses and other projects across Penn Engineering.
  • Plan and coordinate videography and photography coverage for live events, ensuring comprehensive and high-quality documentation that aligns with project objectives and stakeholder needs.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in multimedia production, digital media, or related field and 3-5 years of experience in multimedia production and project management in an educational environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in computer science, engineering, or other STEM fields is a plus.
  • Prior experience in team management and leadership roles.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software for audio/video production tools and project management applications.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including on-campus shoots and other production requirements.
  • Strong understanding of copyright laws and data security best practices.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to evolving technologies and industry trends.
  • Asset management experience.
  • Technical support experience in a multimedia production environment.
