Get a Jumpstart on Your MCIT Online Application
MCIT Online has two admissions cycles, Fall and Spring, and the application is closed for short periods in between. But you can work on preparing your application at any time of year. Here are five actions you can take today to strengthen your application and maximize your chances of success.
- Watch an admissions webinar.
Hear from current MCIT Online students, learn tips and tricks, and find out more about how we’ll support your career development. Our admissions webinars offer valuable insights into the admissions process and beyond.
- Get tips from our program director.
From how to choose recommenders to the importance of showcasing your experience with online learning, here are 5 Tips to Strengthen Your MCIT Online Application.
- Brush up on your technical skills.
Taking one or two introductory computer science courses is a great way to show your interest, especially if you don’t have much of a computer science background. Two excellent choices are our Computational Thinking and Problem Solving and Introduction to Programming with Python and Java Specialization courses offered through Coursera.
- Show off your quantitative ability.
You don’t need computer science experience to join MCIT Online. But you do need to have a strong quantitative aptitude, especially in math. If you haven’t taken a math course before (e.g., Algebra, Calculus, Discrete Math) or it’s been a long time, consider taking one from a local community college or online. Two of the six core courses are mathematical in nature so it is critical to have some experience in this area ahead of time.
There are several ways to demonstrate your aptitude besides good grades in undergraduate courses. Our recent blog post Why Quantitative Ability is Important to your MCIT Online Application has the details.
- Get a head start on your personal statement.
Why are you interested in MCIT Online? What will you contribute to the program? Your personal statement gives you the chance to make a compelling case for yourself, so start thinking about it now. See the application checklist for additional information about writing your personal statement and gathering other materials.
