Road Trip: Seattle Edition
Penn Engineering Online is committed to expanding access to world-class engineering education. The online Master of Computer and Information Technology (MCIT Online) and the online Master of Science in Engineering in Data Science (MSE-DS Online) degrees allow students to engage with an Ivy League academic experience from anywhere, at any time. Penn Engineering Online knows how valuable it is to extend these graduate degree opportunities far beyond the limits of a traditional classroom.
They also know how important it is to supplement an exceptional academic curriculum with a portfolio of professional development opportunities. One important component of Penn Engineering Online’s career service offerings is the Road Trip program.
This March, the Road Trip team traveled West to Seattle to host two days of professional development programming. Forty-two participating students from the MCIT Online and MSE-DS Online programs visited four local Seattle employers: Meta, Expedia, Stripe, and Amazon. At each company’s site visit, students had the opportunity to tour the office space and hear from current employees to learn more about the organization and gain insights into the employee experience. Students also met with recruiters at Expedia, Stripe, and Amazon who shared insights about the hiring process and provided guidance on navigating the job search.
Over the course of the two days, students also had plenty of opportunities to network with their peers and classmates, many of whom they had not yet met in person, outside of the virtual classroom. They also spent time with members of the Penn Engineering staff (including Senior Academic Advisor, Tracy Staeudle and Career Advisor, Saryu Sanghani) and faculty (Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, Professor Boon Thau Loo). Penn’s Development & Alumni Relations Office also hosted an alumni social event to provide an opportunity for students to connect with local Penn alumni to exchange experiences.
The Penn Engineering Online team is grateful to all of the participants who joined them on the road in Seattle. The hope is that many of the forged connections and sparked ideas will support the personal and professional development of everyone involved. Keep an eye out to see where Penn Engineering Online is heading for the next Road Trip!
